Terry G, Reminisce thrill students at Etisalat cliqfest in Zaria

Nigeria’s weirdest singer, Terry G and rap sensation, Reminisce were in their elements as they thrilled the students and staff of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria to breathtaking music performances at the just-ended Etisalat CliqFest campus tour of the school.

Even a heavy downpour could not deter the students, who thronged the polytechnic’s open field in large number and stood in the rain for hours, while the artistes in succession served up melodious beats and lyrics.

Terry G, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, was an instant hit with the crowd who applauded him as he mounted the stage following his introduction by MC Bash. As expected, he showed up with fingers clutched to his trademark bell and forming an eccentric appearance that has become characteristic of him.

The ‘Akpako’ crooner was his energetic self as he performed several of his popular hits such as Gingah, So High, Run Man, Pass me ur Love, Love affair and Sexy Lady to the admiration of the jubilant crowd who responded to the high-powered performance. In appreciation, he gave out famed gold chains, his footwear and his latest works as mementos.

For Reminisce, real name Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru, it was an emotionally sweet home coming having been born in Kaduna. Singing such hits as Tesojue, Daddy, Eleniyan, Local Rapper, etc, from his collections including his recent work, Baba Hafusa, the “Alaga Ibile” crooner thrilled the crowd who kept asking for more.

Beside the two headline acts, upcoming act, Nex2 and local boy, Mai Martaba had engaging performances. While Nex2, who emerged the Nigerian Idol Season 5 second runner-up, showcased the singing talents that stood him out during the TV reality show, Mai Martaba, on the other hand, connected with his renditions in Hausa language.

Speaking about the music jam, some of the students could not hide their excitement at seeing some of artistes perform live.

An excited Suleiman Sani, a National Diploma 2 student of Public Administration was particularly happy to see the stars. “We usually watch these musicians on television, but to have them live and direct on our campus is unbelievable and I thank Etisalat for bringing this to our school,” he enthused.

Another student Angela Eze, a National Diploma 1 student of Accounting was full of praise for CliqFest organiser, Etisalat Nigeria for choosing the school as the host. “We have never had an experience like this before. People think this place is not safe but as you can see, it is peaceful and we are truly excited that Etisalat brought this beautiful programme to us. The memory will be with us for a long time,” she said.
