The Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, is said to have called on the lawmakers representing the state in the Nigerian Senate to support the former governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi, in the ministerial nomination screening.
Fayemi who is the immediate past governor of Ekiti state is one of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees announced at the Senate on Tuesday, October 6.
The current governor of the state, Fayose, had been at loggerheads with Fayemi and had openly blasted his predecessor on several occasions. The former governor had lost his seat to Fayose in a bid to clinch on the governorship victory for a second tenure.
Fayose had in August reacted to an interview which his predecessor granted. Fayemi had said that his legacy was being destroyed in the state by Governor Fayose.
The governor then described Fayemi as a serial betrayer who betrayed his party, the All Progressives Congress, and its leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who helped him to power.
According to Daily Post, Fayose had said: “Today, Fayemi has been ostracized by those who assisted him to office because he has betrayed all of them, including Tinubu.
“Never again shall Ekiti be governed by those who will borrow billions of naira to plant flowers and create comfort for themselves alone.
“If he served Ekiti and its people well, why was it that he was roundly defeated in all the 16 local councils in the state in the 21 June, 2014 governorship election and his party was also defeated 16 to 0 in the presidential, National Assembly and House of Assembly elections?”
However, Fayose is currently drumming support for the former governor.
According to Ynaija, Fayose’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, released a statement quoting the governor: “Ekiti is my number one priority, I called all the members of the House of Representatives and senators that went to Abuja from here, some people petitioned the National Assemble stating how Fayemi sunk Ekiti into heavy debt, I have told the members not to do that.
“It is God that judges people not we. You must support him there. If a child would die it shouldn’t be from the mother. They should not go to the House and oppose Kayode Fayemi. They must never do that. An Ekiti man is an Ekiti man. I appeal to everybody, you must support him.
“All former ministers from here in the time past practically really have nothing to show because we pull one another down, we pull one another down. We must not pull them down. If they are behaving like that, we must live a better life. Promotion does not come from man but from God Almighty.”
The Senate had scheduled the screening of the ministerial nominees for Tuesday, October 13.
Meanwhile, the head of the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), Debo Adeniran, has described the ministerial nominee from Ogun state, Kemi Adeosun, as a misfit for the task if eventually confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.
