Horrible Car Accident Leaves 16 People Dead In Kano State


At least 16 members of an extended family crushed to death in a fatal road mishap that happened at the weekend in Kano state.

Reports says that 11 other people suffered varying degrees of injury in the accident, which occurred at Gwarzo-Kano road.

The victims, who were family members of the former managing director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Halilu Getso, were on their way to a naming ceremony when the accident happened.

According to eyewitnesses, the two buses were overtaking another vehicle and in the process collided with an oncoming truck. The drivers of the buses and 16 passengers died on the spot.



Mallam Aminu Usman, the Kano state commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the accident and added that the bodies of the dead, mostly youths, had been evacuated and buried according to Muslim rites.
Same weekend, 6 people were seriously injured in a car accident that occurred at the Ile-Ise Awo junction along Lagos-Abeokuta road few kilometres to Neuro Psychatric hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Sources disclosed that the driver of the car might have been drunk and lost control when it approached the truck.

Another horrible accident happened in Umuchu town in Anambra state, on Sunday, October 11. A truck driver lost control of his vehicle after its brake failed and about 25 died on the spot with over 40 others, who were seriously injured, rushed to different hospitals in the area.
