Kogi traditional ruler abducted

Gunmen, said to be numbering about five, have kidnapped the traditional ruler of Apaa-Bunu community in the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oba Adebisi Obademi.

Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada
Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that the monarch was kidnapped at about 7.30am on Wednesday by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

He was said to be on his way to Odo -Ape, a suburb community close to his domain, when the kidnappers abducted him.

The Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, Mr. Duro Meseko, decried the increasing spate of kidnappings in the area.

He urged law enforcement agencies to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.

A source close to the state Commissioner of Police , Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, who pleaded not to be named as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said the abduction had been reported to Ojukwu.

He said when the police made attempts in the past to attack the den of the kidnappers, residents allegedly pleaded that they would rather pay the ransom than expose the victims to danger.

The source said such attitude had weakened the resolve of the police to tackle kidnapping in the area headlong.
