Saraki Condemns Abuja Blasts

Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, on Saturday, October 3, condemned the bomb explosions in the satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kuje and Nyanya, while calling on security agencies to step up intelligence gathering activities.
“This war against insurgency is one that all of us must co-operate with and support the military,” Bukola Saraki says.

This was made known in a press statement signed by the media office of the Senate president.

Saraki urged Nigerians not to panic, as the renewed attacks are signs that the days of Boko Haram are numbered.

He commended the security agencies for their quick response to the incidents in Nyanya and Kuje, especially the prompt evacuation of both the dead and injured to medical facilities where they are receiving medical attention.

He, however, urged the security agencies to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the peace that has returned to the FCT and its environs, which would be not only sustained, but improved upon.


“To maintain peace, we need to step up the intelligence gathering machinery and get ordinary people to give useful information on suspicious movements by individuals, groups or even unexplainable location of objects and structures.
“This war against insurgency is one that all of us must co-operate with and support the military,” Saraki said.

He also called on Nigerians not to relent in their prayers and making critical intelligence available to security forces, to aid them in their final onslaught against insurgency in the North East and other affected parts of the country.

The Senate president commiserated with the families of victims of the explosions and wished those hospitalized a speedy recovery.

“We are definitely seeing the last days of these misguided elements. The resort to soft targets as their new mode of attack is a clear indication that there is tremendous heat on the insurgents from our gallant security forces who have vowed to vanquish these outlaws within the shortest possible time,” he stated.

Saraki added that the Senate would continue to support the troops with appropriate legislations and necessary budgetary allocations to enable them succeed in the task of effectively defending the territorial integrity of the country as well as assisting in the maintenance of internal security.
