A current ranking launched by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a sister company of The Economist journal on 25 African cities has positioned Lagos and Abuja among the leading 4 cities in Africa with the greatest price of living.
The key results of the expense of living positions per city reveal that Abuja is the second most expensive city in Africa with an overall expenditure score of 107.4. Lagos came fourth with 100.8 overall expenditure
Ranking initially on the checklist as Africa’s most expensive city is Luanda in Angola with a rating of 131.8, while Addis Ababa came last with a rating of 60.8.
In other ranks, Abuja emerged as the 12th city in terms of consumption of alcohols, tobacco and narcotics, while Lagos took the 21st placement amongst the 25 cities evaluated.
In regards to cash invested on transportation, Lagos and Abuja came 15th and 22nd out of the 25 cities, scoring 107.5 and 91.7, specifically. Leading on this listing is Abidjan with 172.0 score spent on transportation, while Alexandra in Egypt came last with a rating of 71.7.
The Economist Intelligence Unit creates regular records on the “reports on the livability”, and cost of living of the world’s major cities, which obtain large coverage in global news sources.
