Siasia Picks Digitemie As Running Mate

Siloko Siasia the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Movement PDM yesterday unveiled his running mate, Mrs. Irene Opuene Digitemie, a retired civil servant from Akassa in Brass council area of the state as well as his manifesto.
Siasia, younger brother of former Nigerian international football star and coach of the nation Under 23 team, Samson Siasia, described himself as the real change which according to him, Bayelsa desires.

Speaking during an interactive session in Yenagoa, Siasia identified unemployment as the bane of the state and promised to create 30,000 jobs in his first year in office as well as making accountability and transparency the mantra of his administration.
“As governor, I will be accountable to the citizens of Bayelsa. I make no excuses. I will be fully responsible for all that happens under my leadership. The people of Bayelsa will have a leader who listens and is respectful.”
Promising to tackle unemployment head on, he said:

“Unemployment is taking its toll on our youths. We have over 85 per cent of Bayelsa youths unemployed. How do we create employment for our teeming youths that have become disillusioned?
“Our government will create 30, 000 jobs in one year, attract 5 fortune 500 companies to invest in critical sectors in Bayelsa. We would build a new deep-sea port to bring trade and facilitate the export of our goods.
“We would empower civil society groups to complement government institutions in all areas through training and mentorship. These are parts of what we will do in tackling the high rate of unemployment in the state.
“Again is education which is the pre-requisite for building a strong, sustainable future and it is the bedrock of our development plan.
“Illiteracy and ignorance reduces human confidence and self-esteem and impedes the ability of an individual to effectively contribute to the society. For this reason, we will place a very high priority on education so that this generation will be 21st century compliant.
