Kano Approves N3.94 Billion For 3 Roads

The Kano state government has approved the contract in the sum of N3,944,051,647.06 for the construction of three roads in the state as part of the implementation of the 2016 budget stated by the Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Muhammad Garba.

Speaking to newsmen Mr. Garba said the three roads include Janguza-Durum-Kabo-Karaye, 38 kilometer Burumburum- Kibiya-Rano and Tiga-Rurum-Rano.

He said the roads which were contained in the 2016 budget would cost N402,784,602.21, N2,189,503,588.11 and N1,351,763,456.74 respectively. He pointed out that the Janguza-Durum-Kabo-Karaye road was awarded since 2007 during Shekarau`s administration but could not be completed even during the tenure of the immediate past governor of the state Rabi’u Kwankwaso. He said present government saw the importance of the road as it cut across six local government areas of Tofa, Rimin-Gado, Kabo, Karaye, Roggo and Kiru, hence, it has decided to complete it this year.

The commissioner assured people of Kano that government would fully implement the 2016 budget, saying “government is determined to achieve 85-90 per cent of implementation of the budget, God willing.

He therefore urged people of the state to support government in that respect by paying their taxes as at when due, noting that the era of dependence on the federal government monthly allocation was over, Some states were currently receiving 35-40 per cent of what they used to receive from the federal government as monthly allocation which cannot sustain most of them.

“Going by the present economic crisis, Kano state government has employed the services of nine private revenue generation companies to assist it in improving its IGR so as to achieve successful implementation of the 2016 budget,” he said.
