Tension in Akwa Ibom State as Police arrest Udom Emmanuel’s aide, Ime Uwah

Report reaching us has it that the atmosphere in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital is reportedly tensed as some SAS Police officers believing to be working for the Federal Government have now invaded the home of Ime Uwah, the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on marketing and brand Management.

The officers who arrived Uyo on Monday night in a Hiace bus with a Lagos registration number EY 527 KJA, were reportedly detailed from Lagos to arrest the Governor’s aide over allegation that he kept weapons, ammunition and police uniforms in his farm ahead of the rerun election in the State. The officers claimed they were acting on an anonymous petition.

A source told us that trouble, however, started when the officers were led to Uwah’s farm, and after
searching the farm located along the Airport Road in Uyo, refused to release the Governor’s aide, insisting he would be taken to Lagos to have his statement documented.

At the moment, supporters of Akwa Ibom State Governor have barricaded the Police command in Uyo where the matter is being investigated before Uwah is taken to Lagos.

We learnt that the matter is currently being investigated by the Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Another source told us that the supporters of the government are determined to stop the police from taking the Governor’s aide to anywhere outside the state and that there is likelihood of violence should the police act otherwise.

we recalls that at the start of Udom’s administration, the Department of State Security, DSS, raided the Government House over the same allegation of weapons and ammunition but nothing was found. The outcome of the investigation is yet to be made public as nothing has been heard from the DSS since the raid.

Details later…
